When I talk to clients about self-awareness, I usually tell them that it’s a state of mind, not an action or a skill. So I tell them, “If you can’t get out of your own way, you’re not ready to be self-aware.

For my own personal experience, I’m usually a “self-aware” person. I am able to exercise self-awareness to the best of my ability. I have found that self-awareness is a highly personal thing. If I’m not aware of what I’m doing, I feel as though I’m doing something wrong.

Of course, if you feel this way, you may get stuck in the middle of a whole bunch of other stuff in your life. You could be reading a novel and suddenly stumble upon that person you like so much who you have been avoiding all day who just got dumped. It can happen. Or you could be doing something else entirely, and your mind is suddenly filled with thoughts about your own stuff.

Shawn Saleem is a highly personal thing. Although he has become a very prominent person in the community, he has come to feel that there is something he does that is not good or right or that he is doing to himself. He says he is very conscious of this aspect of himself and what is wrong with him. He says that he spends too much time on Facebook and he has become very conscious of the fact that he has been spending too much time on Facebook.
