How to Win Big in the infosec jobs Industry

I was just thinking that there are some jobs that are more like the real world, and others like the fantasy world. The good news is that these roles are very well defined. You can do them and they are very rewarding. The bad news is that you will never really get to be a superhero or a secret agent. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a level of self-awareness that you need to attain or even need to be taught.

I think this is a tough one to answer because it doesn’t really matter what you do. The important question is whether you really understand what you are doing. If you have a job that most people would describe as a “crisis management” position, you probably do not. These are usually administrative positions that do not involve the actual crisis itself.

A self-awareness of what you do and where you are in your career is the first step to being able to identify when it is time to reorient yourself and your career to a more creative direction. Also, the ability to learn from mistakes is extremely valuable, but it is not something that I have personally seen anyone do. There is no one single book or course that will teach you the skills needed to be an effective crisis manager, but there are a few blogs that cover the topic.

This is an excellent point, and one that I’ve never thought of as a bad thing. There are two types of crisis management, which are: 1) Situational and 2) Organizational. The goal of the former is to help the team solve their current crisis, while the goal of the latter is to help the organization solve its current crisis.

We need to be very clear here: Crisis management is not about solving your personal crises. It’s about using the crisis to help the whole organization solve its problems. It’s about how to leverage the crisis to help solve the organization’s problems.

Your organization is the problem. That’s a common misunderstanding. What is your organization’s problem? What is your organization’s crisis? Your organization’s crisis is the same problem as your organization.
